غزل ۱۴۳۷ مولانا

۱	چو رَعد و برق می‌خندد، ثَنا و حَمْد می‌خوانم	چو چَرخِ صافِ پُرنورم، به گِردِ ماه گَردانم
۲	زبانم عُقده‌‌‌یی دارد چو موسی من زِ فرعونان	زِرَشکِ آن که فرعونی خَبَر یابد زِ بُرهانم
۳	فروبَندید دستم را چو دَریابید هستم را	به لشکرگاهِ فرعونی، که من جاسوسِ سُلطانم
۴	نه جاسوسم، نه ناموسم، من از اسرارِ قُدّوسَم	رَها کُن، چون که سَرمَستم، که تا لافی بِپَّرانم
۵	زِ باده باد می‌خیزد، که بادهْ باد اَنگیزد	خصوصا این چُنین باده، که من از وِیْ پَریشانم
۶	همه زُهّادِ عالَم را، اگر بویی رَسَد زین میْ	چه ویرانی پدید آید، چه گویم من؟‌ نمی‌دانم
۷	چه جایِ میْ که گر بویی ازان اَنْفاسِ سَرمَستان	رَسَد در سنگ و در مَرمَر، بِلافَد کآبِ حیوانم
۸	وجودِ من عَزَبْخانه‌ست و آن مَستان دَرو جَمعَند	دِلَم حیرانْ کَزیشانَم، عَجَب، یا خود من ایشانم
۹	اگر من جِنْسِ ایشانم، وَگَر من غیرِ ایشانم	‌‌‌نمی‌دانم، همین دانم که من در روح و ریحانم

۱- When the thunder and lightning laugh, I recite paeans of praise, I am full of light as the clear sky, I am circling around the moon.

۲- My tongue is knotted like Moses because of the Pharaohs, for jealousy lest a Pharaoh should discover my proof.

۳- Bind my hands if you find me in the encampment of a Pharaoh, for I am the Sultan’s spy.

۴- I am not a spy, I am not a scandal, I am one of the secrets of sanctity; let me go, since I am drunk, that I may let fly a vaunt.

۵- From wine wind arises, for wine stirs up wind, especially the kind of wine through which I am distraught.

۶- If a whiff of this wine were to reach all the world’s ascetics, what a desolation then will appear, what shall I say? I know not.

۷- Why speak of the wine? For if a whiff of those drunkards’ breaths were to penetrate stone and marble, they would brag, “I am the Water of Life.”

۸- My being is a bachelor’s apartment, and those drunkards are gathered together therein;

my heart is distraught to know whether I am one of them amazing!-or myself I am they.

۹- Whether I am their congener, or whether I am other than they, I do not know, all I know is this, that I am in peace and well-being.
